STEPS TO APPLY FOR FASA FOR UNIVERSITIES ABROAD:

U.S. students can use their FAFSA to directly enroll abroad!
In the case of universities abroad, FAFSA is financial aid in form of subsidized and subsidized loans backed by the U.S. government. There are about 300 universities abroad that accept FAFSA, and the process to apply for financial aid with them is similar to your local college/university.
STEPS TO APPLY FOR FAFSA FOR UNIVERSITIES ABROAD:
+ Choose up to 10 universities abroad to apply in your FAFSA application. You apply the same way you would here in the U.S.

+ Apply for FAFSA (www.fafsa.ed.gov) as soon after January Ist as possible. Aid is disbursed throughout the year, and it is first come, first served. You don't want to risk not receiving your full award.
+ The aid amount depends if you are considered dependent or independent of your parents. For universities abroad, students receive only Direct Loans (no Pell grants). The maximum amounts of direct loans are capped depending on what year of college you are in - ranging from $5,500 for a dependent student in their first year to $20,500 for a year of graduate school. There are also PLUS Loans through your parents that usually cover the difference of cost for tuition, room/board
+ In 4-6 weeks after applying, you will receive your financial aid package. Many universities, especially American Universities abroad, will also offer discounts, grants and scholarships from their side to allow you to attend the university.
+ Once you receive this financial aid package, you can apply to the university for a summer all the way to obtaining a degree there! You will need to re-apply for aid each academic year.
+ Funds get dispersed directly to the university. Always make sure you check with the university you are attending abroad to make sure everything is ok with FAFSA funding before you leave to study abroad there.
